RETRON containers: BAM-GGR 024 certification for batteries up to 169 KWh
Our fireproof boxes for rechargeable batteries have received further certification: German Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) has approved our containers in accordance with GGR 024 for critically defective lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of up to 169 KWh.
Smaller lithium-ion batteries and lithium batteries that are at risk of ‘thermal runaway’ – e.g. after damage – could already be transported safely in a RETRON container in accordance with the ADR special provisions. The certification now proves that even very large batteries, for example from electric cars, can be transported safely in RETRON containers.
For BAM-GGR 024 certification, a fire test is carried out, among other things, which leads to a thermal runaway of all cells contained within 2 hours. The external temperature of the containers must not exceed 100°C. In addition, no flames, liquids or splinters may escape.
The certification applies regardless of the cell chemistry or geometric form of the batteries.
